Despite the long-lasting research and developments in the field of urban traffic control systems, the continuously increasing mobility requirements urge for solutions that will release urban areas from the serious congestion problems and their consequences. From the control point of view, this may be translated into the employment of traffic-responsive systems that respond automatically to the prevailing traffic conditions. This is the aim of the signal control strategy TUC, whose basic philosophy, design methodology, characteristics and application results under both simulated and field conditions are presented in this paper. Based on a store-and-forward type of mathematical modelling and using well-known methodological tools from Automatic Control Theory, the TUC strategy addresses in a simple but efficient way, as demonstrated from the applications so far, the problem of co-ordinated, traffic-responsive signal control in large-scale urban networks.  相似文献

Free vibration analysis of rectangular Mindlin plates is carried out via the superposition method and is shown to produce accurate results. The analytical method proposed by the authors in this paper solves the problem for the case where the plate has simultaneous elastic edge and internal supports. The conditions of edge supports are uniform lateral, rotational and torsional elastic supports, whereas, the internal supports are column supports with finite area. Compatibility between the plate and column is achieved by requiring that the column and plate rotations be equal. The results presented herein are verified through comparison with results presented by others. Numerical examples presented in this study confirm that the analytical method is able to model the property of the elastic edge supports while simultaneously considering the effect of column restraint, an effect which increases with column number and area.  相似文献

As acknowledged in almost all monographs on the fracture of composite materials, one of the major fracture mechanism in unidirectional fibrous composites under uniaxial compression along the reinforcing elements is the stability loss of the material structure (the structural instability). According to this mechanism, theoretical investigations of the fracture along the fibres are reduced to those of the stability loss in the material structure, and the value of external critical forces is accepted as the value of failure forces. At present, numerous theoretical investigations have been carried out in this field with the use of the three-dimensional linearized theory of stability in the framework of the piecewise-homogeneous body model. However, in all the investigations it is assumed that the matrix and the fibre material are isotropic. It is evident that in many cases it is necessary to take into account the anisotropy of the matrix material when investigating the stability loss of fibres. In view of the above, in the framework of the piecewise-homogeneous body model using the three-dimensional linearized theory of stability, the present paper considers the stability loss of the fibre in the anisotropic (transversally isotropic) matrix. In this paper we present an interacting-agent model of stock markets. We describe a stock market through an Ising-like model in order to formulate the tendency of traders to be influenced by the other traders’ investment attitudes [Kaizoji, Physica A 287 (2000) 493], and formulate the traders’ decision-making regarding investment as the maximum entropy principle for nonextensive entropy [C. Tsallis, J. Stat. Phys. 52 (1988) 479]. We demonstrate that the equilibrium probability distribution function of the traders’ investment attitude is the q-exponential distribution. We also show that the power-law distribution of the volatility of price fluctuations, which is often demonstrated in empirical studies can be explained naturally by our model which originates in the collective crowd behavior of many interacting-agents.  相似文献

This paper presents a systematic approach to treating the interfaces between the localized (fine grain) and peripheral (coarse grain) domains in atomic scale simulations of crystalline solids. Based on Fourier analysis of regular lattices structures, this approach allows elimination of unnecessary atomic degrees of freedom over the coarse grain, without involving an explicit continuum model for the latter. The mathematical formulation involves compact convolution operators that relate displacements of the interface atoms and the adjacent atoms on the coarse grain. These operators are defined by geometry of the lattice structure, and interatomic potentials. Application and performance are illustrated on quasistatic nanoindentation simulations with a crystalline gold substrate. Complete atomistic resolution on the coarse grain is alternatively employed to give the benchmark solutions. The results are found to match well for the multiscale and the full atomistic simulations.  相似文献

Saint-Venant’s Problem, Almansi–Michell Problems, Meshfree Methods, Piezoelectricity. We present a semi-analytical method for analyzing prismatic nonhomogeneous piezoelectric cylinders with arbitrary cross-sectional geometry. The prescribed loads considered in this study include axial forces, torques, moments, and voltage resultants prescribed at the cylinder’s ends, as well as body forces, lateral surface shears, voltages, and pressures as long as they can be represented by a power series in the axial coordinate. This problem can be considered as an extension of Saint-Venant and Almansi–Michell problems for elastic bodies to piezoelectric bodies. In this computationally efficient method, the cross-sectional plane is discretized with a meshfree approach, and the solution is obtained analytically with respect to the axial coordinate. A number of examples are provided to demonstrate the veracity and utility of the proposed method.  相似文献
